Technical Level Designer - Overview

For this project I am currently freelancing under an associate title as the sole Technical Level Designer on the Climax team of the unnanounced AAA Sci-Fi RPG Project in Unreal Engine 5.

Responsibilities

As the onlyTechnical Level Designer for the Climax team,​ my responsibilities include:
 

  • Setting up and upholding Blueprint scripting best practices, through the node-based scripting language alongside proprietary tools.
     

  • Collaborating closely ​with Programmers to plan a clean pipeline while also delivering systems for prototyping and tools.
     

  • Collaborating closely with Designers to fine-tune the gameplay flow and pacing.
     

  • Implementing unique features and interactions while taking them from Vision to a AAA Game Ready state, and designing areas around them.
     

  • Optimizing the performance through streaming.
     

  • Taking ownership and responsibility of technical level design features, while setting up and maintaining the documentation.
     

  • Regularly report directly to directors to ensure the work is following the games intended vision.
